“Reading is out of this world!” is the theme for Read-A-Thon 2018, and the annual event is officially underway in the elementary school. Read-A-Thon is a three-week literacy initiative that focuses on getting students excited about reading and encouraging reading at school and home. This year, themed reading centers in the elementary library have been created especially for the event. There are also several special events planned throughout the duration of Read-A-Thon.
During the kickoff assembly on Monday, February 19, Mrs. Roll, ES Principal, challenged the entire elementary school to read a total of 772,018 minutes! For three weeks, students will log the number of minutes they read and will participate in some fun reading incentives at school. Students were also introduced to the various prizes they will be eligible to win based on the number of minutes they read.
On Thursday, February 22, students were able to wear pajamas to school and enjoy a special pancake lunch as part of the Read-A-Thon celebration. During the first week, they have also been able to participate in a photo competition, and winners will be selected from each grade. Stay tuned for more exciting information about Read-A-Thon 2018!
