The Elementary and Secondary Library Media Specialists (LMS) hosted a tea for parents on September 22. They enjoyed meeting parents and sharing about the many offline and online resources the YISS Media Centers have to offer our YISS families.
The passion that the Secondary LMS, Colleen Dwight, has for helping students become better readers was evident in her closing remarks. She encouraged parents to read to their children daily as a method to help children build vocabulary, gain knowledge, and love reading. Not only is it a great time to bond with their children, parents are also able to model what a good reader sounds like using expression and reading at a good pace.
The Elementary LMS, Amy DeGroat, also helped Mrs. Dwight share about the many online resources available to students and parents. A complete list of resources can be found on the library's homepage. Parents are welcome to contact the YISS Media Center to receive the passwords needed to access our subscription-based magazines, encyclopedias, databases, online books, and videos.
Parents are welcome to visit the Elementary Media Center during Parent Hour from 3:00 - 4:00 pm on regular school days and the Secondary Media Center after school until 4:30 pm.
