Over 200 fathers and their elementary school daughters gathered on Friday, April 5 for the annual Father & Daughter Night organized by the YISS Dads' Club. In a first for the event, the dance was held at YISS as the gymnasium was transformed into a magical balloon and star-filled wonderland for the evening.
Fathers and daughters first waited anxiously and patiently to have memorable photos taken by a professional photographer. As the event got underway, guests enjoyed a lavishly catered buffet dinner complete with chef’s carving station. Our MC’s for the evening, YISS PTO secretary, Mia Seo, and her daughter, Sora, a YISS middle school student, provided laughs and excitement for the many raffle prizes awarded throughout the evening. As the evening moved on, guests were entertained by a terrific magician who wowed the crowd with wonder, laughs, and many surprises throughout his highly entertaining show. The girls then enjoyed a special, sweet surprise in the form of a s’mores station as they were able to roast their own marshmallows and sneak in plenty of extra chocolate along the way.
To honor and celebrate the 5th graders on their last Father & Daughter night, their fathers surprised them with special corsages and then kicked off the dancing for the evening with a sweet last dance together. The real dancing for the evening was then kicked off with a fun, choreographed rendition of “Baby Shark” with moves led by one of the high school NHS volunteers. Lively dancing continued throughout the rest of the evening led by DJ Naviance, YISS HS counselor, Mr. Wilson Lee.
Special thanks to Dads' Club Representative Ben Teasdale, PTO leaders Sung Hee Ahn, Hwajung Shin, and especially Jessica Cha-Kim for her vision and hard work in transforming the YISS gymnasium! We would also like to thank the generous prize sponsors and many additional PTO volunteers for their invaluable role in making Father & Daughter Night 2019 a truly memorable event for all.
