Fourth Grade Market Day Raises Funds for Refugees

By Lauren Green Mar 7, 2018

On March 6, 2018, rather than working to earn any Guardian cash for themselves, the fourth grade hosted a fundraising Market Day to support the International Rescue Committee, an NGO dedicated to helping rebuild the lives of refugees scattered around the world. The IRC, which was started with help from Albert Einstein, donates 90 cents of every dollar directly to programs and services to help people in need. According to the IRC, "in 2016, more than 26 million people benefited from IRC programs and those of its partner organizations.”

Students baked, made crafts, and designed games as creative means to provide for those in need. With the help of incredibly supportive parents, YISS fourth graders raised over ₩2.1 million to help some of the world's 60 million displaced people.
