Fall Book Fair Supports Reading Initiatives

Nov 29, 2017

From November 8-10, the main lobby at YISS was bursting at the seams with a wide variety of books for readers of all ages from Kids Book Sejong and Word of Life Press. The book fair enabled parents, students, teachers, and visitors to find great deals on new, popular, and classic books, as well as provide new books for student access via elementary classroom libraries and select middle school and high school classrooms.

This year, sales reached over ₩46 million, and parents and students generously donated over 500 books to classroom libraries during the three-day event. A percentage of sales went to the YISS PTO, which generously uses its funds to support reading-related initiatives and other educational enrichment programs. In addition, the PTO awarded ₩10,000 gift certificates to five students from among the 65 middle school students who submitted book recommendations.

With such a large-scale event, it took many hands to make it successful. Thank you to our energetic co-chairs Emily Lu and Jessica Cha-Kim, who spearheaded the book fair, plus all the parents who volunteered their time to assist students. Thanks to our librarians for coordinating with the vendors and collecting and giving book recommendations.
