ES Media Center Celebrates School Library Month

By Karen Henspeter Apr 27, 2015

School library month is typically celebrated in April--and celebrate we did! Here are some recent highlights in the Elementary Media Center:

A Visit From Bill Myers: We enjoyed welcoming Bill Myers, award-winning author and filmmaker, into our YISS community in mid-April. Mr. Myers met with numerous classes, spoke at career day, autographed books, shared with parents, and led exciting writing sessions! The 4th and 5th graders were able to personally ask him questions during special classroom Q&A sessions. The kids also loved hearing Mr. Myers share about the essentials of story-writing. They had the chance to start writing themselves--and they found it hard to put their pencils down!

Spring Book Fair: We enjoyed hosting another book fair at YISS. It's always fun for the kids to make their own selections and pick up summer reading material. A big thank you goes to all our PTO volunteers!

Elephant & Piggie Day: This beloved Mo Willems' series is the most circulated in our Media Center. Elephant and Piggie books bring joy to all, both young and old. We celebrated on Friday, April 17, with fun themed centers. Lots of students chose to write letters to Mr. Willems, thanking him for his books and giving suggestions for new ones.

Other News: A new book shipment is due to arrive any day! Explore 34 will wrap up on May 22. Time is flying!
