FunFest Turns YISS into a Fun and Exciting “Circus”

Sep 29, 2017

On Friday, September 22, the YISS campus came alive and transformed into a vibrant “circus” for FunFest 2017. FunFest goers were magically transported under the YISS big top where many booths decked out in a vast array of red, white, and yellow turned the campus into the best show in town. FunFest is our annual school-wide carnival event that aims to provide a wide variety of games and activities, delicious food, teacher raffles, and live music performances to bring our entire school community together for a wonderful night of family-centered fun.

During an evening filled with dazzle and delight, students enjoyed circus-themed carnival games organized by ES parents, MS parents, and many HS Clubs. Students excitedly entered the teacher raffles, jumped inside the bouncy castles, rolled around in inflatable Zorb balls, and shopped for goodies at the MS “Under the Big Top” souvenir shop. MS and HS music ensembles entertained many attendees who gathered to chat, mingle, and sample the delicious food offerings that were available in the courtyard.

Dads' Club fired up the grills to offer up their signature burgers and hot dogs with some gourmet sides. HS parents whipped up a delicious medley of Korean foods, including bulgogi, ddeokbokki, and mandu, while the Japanese parents featured a savory chicken teriyaki don. HS Clubs also offered a wide selection of desserts and snacks, while Chakraa and the Vietnamese Embassy rounded out the scene. With such a huge selection to choose from, we were spoiled for choice!

In keeping with this year's theme, students, staff, and even some parents dressed up as circus performers or in circus colors bringing the carnival to life. Sunny skies made the day even more enjoyable! A clown on stilts made a special appearance, greeting guests and making balloon animals and toys for the students to enjoy. Students also enjoyed face painting offered by the MS Art Club, who showed off their artistic talents. Our FunFest Co-Chairs, Ryanghee Kim and Adeline Kheng Mercier, did a fantastic job coordinating the event and transforming YISS into a “circus”!

Looking at the smiling faces of students and watching the entire community come together to work toward a common goal were the most memorable parts of this year's FunFest. The tremendous success of FunFest could not have been possible without the assistance of teachers and staff, room parents, grade reps, HS clubs, and scores of dedicated parent volunteers. Thank you all for joining us at our "circus."
