On Monday, October 15, the YISS campus followed the White Rabbit down the rabbit hole into its very own “YISS in Wonderland” for FunFest 2018. Students, teachers, and staff dressed up in their best Wonderland-inspired costumes, bringing all the characters to life. The Queen of Hearts roamed the campus with her guardsman in tow, ensuring all was in order in Wonderland, while the White Rabbit kept track of time. The Mad Hatter entertained the crowd with his antics, while Cheshire Cats were grinning with joy, and many an Alice was lost in Wonderland.
The rooftop soccer field was transformed into a sea of tents as students enjoyed 28 carnival games that were organized by ES room parents, three activities organized by MS parents, and several by HS Clubs. Students eagerly entered the teachers’ raffle for a chance to win some fun activities, bounced on the colorful inflatables, and hit the MS Wonder Shop.
In the courtyard, entertainment was provided by various MS and HS music ensembles in the courtyard for many who gathered to socialize and grab a bite. Dads' Club offered up their signature burgers and hotdogs, which sold out in record time. HS parents whipped up a medley of delicious Korean food including odeng, ddeokbokki, kimbap, and kimchi pancakes. Japanese parents offered some traditional sweet treats, while HS clubs sold a variety of desserts. Area restaurants Chakraa, Vatos, and Spoon Me rounded out the scene, spoiling everyone for choice!
Watching the entire YISS community come together to work towards a common goal was memorable to see, as were the smiling faces of the students throughout the days’ events. FunFest Co-Chairs Adeline Kheng Mercier and Jessica Cha-Kim did a meticulous job coordinating such a successful event! FunFest also could not have been possible without the assistance of the wonderful teachers and staff, room parents, grade reps, HS clubs, and scores of dedicated parent volunteers. Thank you all for joining us at "YISS in Wonderland."
