On August 24 and 25, the YISS PTO hosted a Newcomers' Coffee to welcome and meet families who are new to the YISS community. This year, we had over 80 new parents attend this event. The event not only allowed school administrators and the PTO board to connect with our newest families but also share about the PTO's activities and how parents can get involved in all school divisions.
YISS is a school that greatly values parent involvement. Headmaster Ray Johnson highlighted how the mission statement of the school includes parents: Yongsan International School is a community of students, parents, and Christian educators working together to instill in each student a passion for truth, a commitment to excellence, and an appreciation for diversity. The PTO also shared how none of their programs and events designed to support the school and students would be possible without willing and dedicated parent and staff volunteers.
Attendees enjoyed hearing about the personal experiences of YISS seniors, Soo Lee and Brian Kim. Soo and Brian transferred to YISS during middle school and high school, respectively, so they were both able to relate to our new families and their transition into a new school environment. It was encouraging to hear that both found the students, teachers, and staff very welcoming and ready to help them get settled.
Representatives from the Itaewon Global Village Center also attended the event to provide resources and share about the many practical services and programs they offer to help expatriates living in Korea.
Thank you, PTO Hospitality Co-Chairs TingTing Chen and Sook Lee and the rest of the PTO Board, for coordinating such a lovely event.
