YISS elementary and middle school students masterfully exercised their chess skills to take top honors at the Spring KAIAC Chess Tournament, hosted by Seoul International School on April 14. At the elementary level, a total of 45 students played ten rounds of chess. YISS third-grader, Woosung L., captured first place, winning ten out of ten rounds, while teammate Ethan S. (5) claimed third place. Woosung also received the Most Valuable Player award for consistently ranking in the top three throughout the season.

Earlier in the season, at the Winter KAIAC Chess Tournament hosted by TCIS on February 24, YISS players Leon K. (4), Woosung L. (3), Timur T. (4), and Andrew L. (4) swept the top four places, respectively, in the elementary division. The excitement these players have for chess is evident as they play 7 to 10 rounds in a tournament and run through practice games while they wait for the next round to begin.

Success is not only measured in medals; it is also evident in the life skills the students are building, such as planning, patience, problem-solving, and perseverance. Congratulations to all who participated this year!
