Both the YISS varsity boys and girls volleyball teams had fantastic seasons this fall. The girls completed the first-ever undefeated regular season (12-0) in “
Through excellent leadership from Captains Pablo Y. (12) and Max C. (11), the boys also completed a great season, with only two conference losses. The top three teams (YISS, SFS, TCIS) were very close competition and went back and forth all season, fighting for the top spot. In the end, the guys lost once to each of the other two schools to take 2nd place for the season. Heading to ACSC in the Philippines, they looked to defend their title from 2016. Although the boys would lose to Grace International School (Chiangmai, Thailand) in the semis, they fought through the loser's bracket to face them again in the finals. They covered the court extremely well and picked up many of the hard hits put down. They played as a team and fought together as brothers. In an intense five-setter, the boys won for the second straight year. The team also finished 3rd in the KAIAC tournament despite dealing with key injuries on those last two days of the season. The boys put on an excellent show every time they played high-level teams and fought for every point possible. The team will miss seniors Pablo Y., Tommaso P., and Danny K. next year. There are some very big shoes to fill, but the team wishes them the best in their upcoming endeavors.
Special recognition to award recipients: Pablo Y. (12) (KAIAC: All Conference, All Tournament, Best Setter; ACSC: All Tournament, Best Setter), Tommaso P. (12) (KAIAC: All Conference; ACSC: Best Passer), Max C. (11) (KAIAC: All Conference; ACSC: All Tournament); Noah Pak (ACSC: All Tournament, MVP)
Congratulations to our volleyball athletes on a great championship season!
