The middle school boys and girls basketball teams traveled to Chadwick on May 12 to take on the cream of the crop in KAIAC Middle School Basketball. The girls came out strong with a 30-point win over APIS and then a 20-point victory over Dalton. In the quarterfinals, the girls took a little bit of time to get in their groove against a tough KIS team but eventually pulled out a 15-point win and a trip to the semifinals against a dominant SIS team. Another slow start found the Guardians playing from behind, but they closed the gap with under two minutes to play. Unfortunately, the clock ran out before they were able to get off a final shot, falling 20-22. The girls finished in 3rd place, and Tanya K. (8) was named to the All-Tournament team.
The boys had a much tougher road at the tournament, starting off against a very skilled APIS team, but in the end, the intensity of the Guardians led to a win. Next up was a game against a talented team from TCIS. This game went down to the wire, and the Guardians came out one point short. The Guardians advanced to the quarterfinals but ended up with a tough draw against a very large Chadwick team. The Guardians kept things close at the start but fell in the end. YISS finished 5th, and Timothy P. (8) was named to the All-Tournament team.
