On Monday, October 8, National Honor Society and the Tri-M Music Honor Society held a joint induction ceremony. The new members admitted to NHS this year were selected based on their excellent academic records, commitment to giving back their community, and adherence to NHS's four pillars: scholarship, leadership, character, and service.

During the ceremony, the president of NHS, Jay. B. (12), explained the selection process. In order to meet the “scholarship” criterion, applicants had to demonstrate academic excellence. Thus, students with a GPA of 3.7 or higher were given the opportunity to apply. “Leadership” was evaluated by looking at the applicants’ ability to lead others and also to have fresh and new ideas. “Character” was judged based on individual integrity, honesty, courtesy and other important qualities that make cooperation possible. Therefore, students with clean disciplinary records were given the opportunity to apply. Lastly, “service” was exhibited by the volunteer work that the applicants had performed or will perform for YISS and their community.
