Welcome to Yongsan International School of Seoul. YISS is a loving, caring community that allows parents and students to become a part of something bigger than themselves.
Our vision is to see our graduates impact the world with servants’ hearts. Investing in our students is at the center of our purpose. We do this by fulfilling our mission, honoring our values, providing outstanding teachers, and working closely with parents. Furthermore, our classroom interactions, service learning projects, athletic and extracurricular programs, and PTO reflect the importance of love and concern for others.
Our mission statement emphasizes our values of truth, excellence, and diversity. We believe unexamined information can lead to misconceptions about truth. Our faculty members come to us with a biblical worldview reflecting what they personally and philosophically embrace themselves. They, in turn, encourage students to think critically by evaluating ideas, facts, and events in light of what is true to develop a worldview that enables them to know truth – both internally and through personal experience and inquiry.
We are committed to excellence, which drives us to make sure we do all things well. Students who attend YISS receive an education that enables them to analyze, critique, explore, explain, and defend ideas, thoughts, and values from around the world. Working to our potential is not a push for perfection, but a willingness to stretch oneself. We encourage students to commit to excellence in all they do.
An appreciation of diversity assures that YISS enrolls students with a variety of cultural and religious backgrounds. This diversity gives our students a truly international experience and also enables each of us to dialogue and share about our differences concerning personal beliefs and values. Despite these differences, our students are challenged to value life and the beauty of the created world around us.
This year our theme is “To Equip & to Empower” and is taken from Ephesians 4:12. This passage of scripture conveys how God equips his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up. This reminds us that our knowledge, skills, and resources are not to be used solely for our needs, but rather to bless others.
We hope you will explore and discover for yourself why we believe YISS is an exceptional place to receive an outstanding education that enables students to become global citizens who value truth, excellence, and diversity. We consider it a priority to meet students’ various needs – intellectual, social, spiritual, and physical – and desire to see all of our students reach their potential both as students and individuals.
May God richly bless each of you,
Dr. George Zickefoose
