YISS AP Studio Art students will have their first group show at Sijac Gallery in Insadong from May 13th-20th. Students will exhibit work from all of our AP Studio Art sections (3D Design, 2D Design, and Drawing).

YISS Mu Alpha Theta students took the AMC 10 (American Mathematics Contest) and the AMC 12 in February. The AMC 10 and AMC 12 are 25-question, 75-minute multiple-choice examinations in secondary school mathematics. The main purpose of the AMC 10 and AMC 12 is to spur interest in mathematics and to develop talent through solving challenging problems in a timed multiple-choice format.

The Elementary Library hosted author-illustrator Darren Farrell for an Author Visit with our Kindergarten, grade 1 and grade 2 students on Tuesday, April 2nd. Darren Farrell is the author-illustrator of "Doug-Dennis and the Flyaway Fib".

Come and celebrate the joy of reading at the 2013 YISS Spring Book Fair. The Book Fair offers the YISS community an opportunity to purchase books at great prices and raise funds to expand our school library.

On March 22nd, YISS hosted its fifth annual Career Day. This year's theme was "Sharpening Your Axe" based on a quote by Abraham Lincoln, "Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe." Career Day began with a keynote address by Theresa Rah, CEO of Oratio and Communications Director of Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic Games Bid Committee entitled Lessons from Pyeongchang.

The KAIAC chess season wrapped up on March 9th with a tournament at YISS, consisting of 48 challengers from six schools (CCS, GSIS, SFS, SIS, TCIS, and YISS) in Varsity and Jr. Varsity divisions. Several YISS students excelled in the competition, including Joshua K, who placed 2nd in the Varsity division.

The 2013-14 YISS Calendar Art Contest "Habitat: Imagine That!" drew 73 submissions from 65 elementary students. Each habitat featured was colorful and creative with turtle and panda habitats being the most popular animal habitat. Though difficult, PTO Music and Art Committee will be making the final selections in the coming months.

Hosted by the YISS Dads' Club, over 200 girls and their fathers enjoyed a fun-filled evening of food, music, dancing, games, photos, magic show, live entertainment and more at Father & Daughter Night 2013 at the Seoul Millennium Hilton - Grand Ballroom.

YISS sixth grade student, Christian L, has dedicated much of his summers and winters to ski training. Congratulations to Christian who registered as a Korea national ski athlete in January and earned many medals during the 2013 ski season.

In November, high school students from international schools all over South Korea submitted recorded auditions hoping for a spot in the KAIAC National Honor Festival in Choir, Orchestra and Band. On the festival weekend, February 22-23, YISS was well represented by seven talented musicians: Stacie P. and Hyo Jin H. from our orchestra, and Ashley C., Ye Rin C., Ann L., Julius S. and May W. from our band. They joined students from eleven other schools and rehearsed for two days under the direction of amazing guest conductors.

On February 22nd, nineteen middle school students had the honor of representing YISS in the Annual Science Olympiad. Held at GSIS, the competition included four science challenges: Egg Drop Experiment, Ice Insulator, Balloon Powered Car, and Super Paper.

YISS will host the Spring KAIAC Chess Tournament, open to both middle and high school students. There are trophies for 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each category. YISS students have been trophy winners in the last three tournaments.

The students of the YISS Drama Department will soon present "The Importance of Being Earnest," a sparkling Victorian comedy written by the celebrated wit Oscar Wilde. This show pokes fun at stuffy Victorian England and at the crazy antics people will attempt for love.
