How to Apply

APPLYING TO YISS

Step 1: Complete Application
Gather Documents Demonstrate Eligibility Complete Testing Online Application Additional Forms

We are now accepting applications for the 2017-2018 school year. Be sure you select the correct year when applying. Applications cannot be processed or transferred from one year to another and you will have to start over if the incorrect year is selected.

Step 1: Gather and Scan Student Documents

Personal student and family documents are required. Please gather and scan documents in preparation for submitting them with your online application.

Supporting documentation is only accepted in PDF format. Photo may be uploaded in PNG or JPG format.

  • Passport title page of applicant, father, and mother
  • Birth certificate of applicant
  • Digital passport photo of applicant
  • Transcript or report cards for the last 3 years, or for the previous 2 years plus the most recent report for current year (in English or officially translated to English).
  • Home School Information Form (if applicable - for applicants who are currently in homeschool)
  • IEP/504 or other specialized education documents and letters (if applicable - for applicants who have a learning, emotional, or physical impairment that would require extra support)
  • Email addresses of current teachers for recommendation requests
  • Standardized test scores

If you are unable to upload documents in the online application, please contact the Admissions Office at apply@yisseoul.org before submitting the application. Understand that YISS will not accept documents via email due to security regulations. Digital copies of school records may be uploaded via the application AND official school records may be emailed directly by the current school to apply@yisseoul.org. All documentation will be verified with the appropriate agencies and organizations prior to acceptance.

Step 2: Demonstrate Eligibility

Eligibility Documentation - Review the categories below for required documentation per eligibility category. Gather and scan documents to submit with your online application

  • Category 1: Non-Korean - applies if both parents hold non-Korean passports and are not ethnically Korean
    • No additional documentation is required for the application process.
      • If accepted, a digital copy of both parents' Alien Registration Cards, Diplomatic IDs or SOFA stamps will be required during the registration process.
  • Category 2: Korean Ethnicity - applies if one or both parents hold non-Korean passports, and one or both parents are ethnically Korean
    • Korean Family Registry - Digital copy of the original Korean Family Registry or Deleted Korean Family Census Register
      • If accepted, an original copy of the Korean Family Registry or Deleted Korean Family Census Register will be required at the applicant's orientation appointment.
  • Category 3: Korean Citizens - applies if one or both parents are Korean citizens or dual citizens (one being Korean)
    • Korean Family Registry - Digital copy of the original Korean Family Registry
      • If accepted, an original copy of the Korean Family Registry will be required at the applicant's orientation appointment.
    • Certificate of Entry and Exit for the Applicant - Digital copy of the Certificate of Entry and Exit for the applicant. The certificate should be issued from applicants birth to current. If the applicant holds dual citizenship, a certificate is required for each passport. This document is issued by the Seoul Immigration Office.
      • If accepted, an original copy of the Certificate of Entry and Exit will be required at the applicant's orientation appointment.
  • Category 4: Transfer from international school within Korea
    • Official Letter from Current School and any Previous International Schools - letter must state that the applicant was enrolled and attending prior to March 1, 2010 and what eligibility was met upon enrollment
    • Prior Eligibility Documents - provide a digital copy of all documents that were used to meet former admissions requirements

Step 3: Complete Standardized Testing

For students applying for 5th-12th grade, a copy of recent standardized test results is required to complete an admissions application. The following are examples of test results that are accepted: Stanford (SAT), MAP, TerraNova, ERB, ISEE, OLSAT, SSAT, PSAT, SAT, ITBS, STAR, US State Standardized Tests.

Kindergarten through 4th grade should provide standardized test scores, if available, otherwise the applicant may need to complete onsite testing at YISS. If testing is required, the Admissions Office will contact you after your application has been completed.

If a student in 5th-12th grade does not have a recent test result, we recommend the following:

Open Test Sites are offered at many locations throughout the year in the US. You may also register online to take the test at a domestic or international Prometric Testing office. Fees range from US$100 - $180, depending on the type of testing center.

Step 4: Complete Application

Complete the admissions online application by clicking "Apply Now". If you have any questions regarding the online application, please contact the Admissions Office at apply@yisseoul.org.

Step 5: After Acceptance

For applicants who have received an acceptance letter from YISS and have accepted the invitation to attend, please complete the registration packet in the admissions and enrollment app.


ADDITIONAL NOTES

  • All documents must be received in order to complete and process the application. After the application is submitted you will no longer be able to make changes or upload new documents.
  • There is no fee required to apply to YISS. The application processing fee is due upon acceptance or if an interview or test is requested.
